もうすぐ七夕です。
日本は、地域に寄っては盛大に祝うイベントとして知られていますが、七夕は元々中国から伝わった伝説で、英語圏で七夕を祝う習慣はありません。
七夕を知らない人に英語でなるべく簡単に説明してみます。

The Star Festival originates from Chinese legend.
七夕は中国の伝説に由来しています。
Vega-a weaving girl, and Altair-a cowherd boy, loved each other.
織女星ベガと牽牛星アルタイルはお互いに愛し合っていました。
They had so much fun being together they stop working hard.
一緒にいるとあまりにも楽しくて、彼らは真面目に働かなくなってしまいました。
Looking at them, the king got so angry and separated them by the big river or the Milky Way.
それを見て、天王は怒って２人を大きな河（天の川）によって離れ離れにしてしまいました。
They were so sad and cried and cried everyday.
彼らはとても悲しく、毎日泣き暮らしました。
The king allowed them to meet once a year across the Milky Way only on the night of July 7th so that they work hard again.
天王は、彼らが再び仕事に精をだすよう、年に１度７月７日の夜だけ２人が天の川を渡って会うことを許しました。
On that day, people decorate bamboo branches with paper strips and ornaments to celebrate their reunion.
七夕の日は、短冊や飾りで笹の枝を飾って２人の再会を祝います。
It is believed that a wish comes true when you write your wish on the paper strips and hang them on the bamboo.
短冊に願いを書いて、笹の枝に吊るすと願いが叶うと信じられています。
日本にとっては梅雨なので雨になる年も多いですが、今年は晴れて再会してほしいですね。
