先日、２月３日は節分でしたね。
最近は、恵方巻きを食べる習慣は定着してきましたが、豆まきをする家は減ってきているようです。私が子供の時には、大好きな年中行事だったので、少し残念な気もします。
今日は、節分に関連する表現を少し書きたいと思います。
まず、”節分”を英語で言うと"Bean-throwing festival"になります。
節分は立春の前の日なので、"The day before the beginning of spring"とも言います。
節分をする意味を英語で説明すると、
People eat the same number of beans as their age to wish for good health.
（無病息災を願って、年の数だけ豆を食べます。）
となります。
豆まきの時の掛け声”鬼は外、福は内”は
Devils out! Good luck in!
邪気を払い福を招くために豆をまく、は
People scatter beans to drive away evil and bring in good luck. です。
恵方巻きはFortune Sushi Roll.です。
恵方巻きの食べ方の説明は、
Face the lucky direction of the year.
（その年の恵方を向きます。）
Eat an entire Sushi roll without stopping.
（恵方巻きを一気に食べます。）
You shouldn't speak until you are finished with the Sushi.
（寿司を食べ終わるまで話してはいけません。）
It is said that good fortune will be gone if you speak.
（話すと幸運を逃がしてしまうと言われています。）
